Glamsci Academy is founded and led by Liza Chinyere Igweigbo, professionally known as Liza Kwan, whose career spans over two decades at the heart of the cosmetics and personal care industry. Born and raised in Hong Kong and immersed in cosmetic manufacturing from an early age through her family’s business, she went on to build a career spanning contract manufacturing, formulation, marketing, retail, and teaching.
Liza is currently R&D Director at Jennystella Beauty Ltd., where she leads the research, development, and safety compliance of cosmetic and personal care products. Prior to this, she founded and ran multiple ventures across the industry, including Create Clear Ltd. (custom perfumery and skincare formulation for corporate clients), Arts Chemical Co. Ltd. (an OEM manufacturer of skincare and personal care products), and DIY Beauty (retail and workshops in home-formulated skincare).
Her academic credentials reflect the same breadth: Liza holds a Graduate Certificate in Cosmetic Science from the University of Cincinnati, trained in perfumery in Thailand and at the Galimard Studio des Fragrances in France, and studied directly under renowned French clinical aromatherapist Pierre Franchomme. She holds an IFA Accredited Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy, IFA and NAHA accreditation, and is a Master Reiki Practitioner. She is also a qualified nutritionist, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutritional Sciences from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Liza’s contributions to the industry have been widely recognized. She is a Fellow of the Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries (FPVC), formerly served as Vice President of the Hong Kong Society of Cosmetic Chemists, and held leadership roles including Chairperson of the Product R&D Committee at the Association of International Aesthetic Management, and Chief Education Officer, Chairperson of Perfumery, and Honorary Director (Hong Kong section) of the International Beauty & Health General Union. She is a full member of several leading professional bodies, including the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC), the International Federation of Aromatherapists (MIFA), and is a professional member of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA).
Teaching has run alongside every stage of Liza’s career. She founded Glamsci Academy in 2016, building a curriculum in skincare formulation, cosmetic science, aromatherapy, and perfumery for students at every level. Since 2021, she has served as a Cosmetics Science Course Instructor at HKU SPACE, and since 2019 as a Guest Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at City University of Hong Kong — training both members of the public and the next generation of chemists in the art and science of formulation. She is also a sought-after public speaker, regularly presenting at educational and CPD training programs for professional beauty associations across the industry.
Liza’s vision extends beyond Hong Kong: to bring rigorous, science-backed education in cosmetic science and holistic wellness to students around the world — building an international community of formulators, therapists, and entrepreneurs equipped with the knowledge to practice with both precision and confidence, wherever they call home.
